Facts:    
§  71 % of the earth’s surface is surrounded by oceans
§  The inter connected body of water on the earth’s surface is world ocean
§  Bay is the wide segment of an ocean extending into land
§  Gulf is a narrow portion of an ocean extending into land
§  The pacific ocean has the greatest number of islands
§  The feature of the Atlantic ocean is the mid-Atlantic Ridge
§  The number of islands in the Indian ocean is comparatively small
§  Madagaskar, Sri lanka are examples of continental Islands.
§  Coral Islands are formed by coral reefs
§  Maldives in the Indian ocean are examples of coral Islands

Students have  previous knowledge about the oceans, different oceans and its features

§              Introduction of the Lesson
          Teacher enter into the classroom with a beautiful smile.  Teacher checking all the facilities in the classroom.  Then, teacher asking, ‘ What   is the climatic situation in Kerala in the months of June and July?  Students were answering “rainy season”.  Then teacher asking, if the rain does not stop, what will be the after effect?.  Most of the students answering “flood”. With the help of the answer of students, teacher telling due to continuous rainfall for thousands of years the water bodies were formed.  Then teacher moving on to the topic.

Bay and Gulf
Teacher telling,do you ever Seen the narrow portion of sea in any beach?  Then teacher telling’ that is known as Gulf.  After the description about Gulf Teacher telling about the Bay also

Consolidation of the lesson
 Teacher give a small description about the oceans and its salient features Teacher telling, ‘oceans are the life giving agents in the earth.  Earth is called the blue planet, because of the large water content in it.  Human beings are depending oceans in various ways.  So, it is our duty to save the water and save the water  and save the oceans also , we must to know the characteristics of different areas.
Review of Questions
After giving a physical drill, teacher asking the following questions
1. What your mean by ‘world ocean’?
2. What is the first continent ?
3. Which is the first ocean?




4. Compare the Bay and Gulf?
5. Which is the smallest ocean in earth’s surface?
6. How the coral reefs are formed?
7. Which are the coral Islands in Indian ocean?
8. Which are the salient features of Atlantic Ocean?

Post –lesson activities
1. Analyze the table 41 and find out the facts you can
    associate with their oceans and prepare notes.
2. Analyse the tale 4.1 and make ten questions and it’s  
   answers
3. Make a seminar on the topic of ‘Indian Ocean
